While Finite State Machines (FSMs) and Behavior Trees remain foundational for basic and complex NPC logic, modern gaming AI increasingly relies on advanced machine learning approaches to create truly adaptive and realistic experiences.

Reinforcement Learning is an area of machine learning where an AI agent learns to make optimal decisions by interacting with an environment and receiving feedback in the form of rewards or penalties.
